The social media giant has always been in controversy for one reason or another. However, it’s the security issues that Facebook developers have to deal with time and again. Who’s not aware of the recent #deleteFacebook campaign which was endorsed by millions of users? And this time, it’s another security flaw that showed up all of a sudden, eliciting a vast majority of users’ attention who now want to prevent Facebook from collecting the call and chat history from their devices.
This current security issue is posing threat to Android users as it concerns with the Facebook Lite app and the latest version of Messenger for Android. According to the latest discovery these both apps have been collecting your call and text records from your smartphone, driving the users mad in anger.
What’s strange is that despite the outrage among users after knowing this fact, the company is still calm in attitude, which states that “call and text history logging” is, in fact, an opt-in feature ever since it came into being three years ago:
“When you sign up for Messenger or Facebook Lite on Android, or log into Messenger on an Android device, you are given the option to continuously upload your contacts as well as your call and text history.”
It means you have, though unintentionally, authorized Facebook to collect your call and chat history from your phone.
It’s never too late!
You can prevent Facebook from collecting the call and chat history and hide your phone data from both the culprit apps by simply tweaking the apps’ Settings.
