Xbox has grown the gaming world huge by bringing gamers from around the world to communicate with one another. Sometimes, however, when don’t wish to broadcast your gaming habits with others, don’t like to disturb by overflowing invites, or you’re just too tired; you’ll want to appear offline on Xbox One for the time being. In order to be invisible to everyone in the Xbox community, you’ll need to use you’re your profile settings. If you prefer not to be seen by anyone at all, head to your Microsoft account privacy settings.
Appear Offline on Xbox One
Step 1: Sign in to your Xbox Live account
Step 2: Press the Xbox button on the controller to open the quick menu
Step 3: Scroll to the top-left icon displaying your profile picture
Step 4: Select this username and picture to get the drop-down menu
Step 5: On the new menu appeared, choose “Appear Offline” option
You can now see the message “Appearing Offline” below your gamertag and gamerpic, meaning now you appear offline on Xbox One.
Now, whenever you wish to be shown online again, land back on this screen and choose “Appear Online” option.

Appear Offline to Strangers
You’d want to be invisible to strangers for various reasons: you only want to confide in your trusted friends or perhaps, you receive too many gaming invites from any random person. As the aforementioned method makes you invisible to everyone in Xbox community, you cannot opt for it while hiding yourself from the people you don’t’ know.
In such case, you need to rely on your privacy settings for your Microsoft account to make sure no stranger in Xbox community can find you. Simply follow the instructions below:
- Head to the Settings on your Xbox One
- On the left menu, select “Account” option
- Go to “Privacy & Online Safety” on the far-right menu
- On the next screen, select “Custom”
Note: You will find some preset privacy options like “Adult defaults” which makes you engage with a large number of people in the Xbox community, “Teen defaults” which is less moderate than the “adult” setting in terms of being social, and the last “Child defaults” which suits better to more private kind of gamers. While these three options offer some supplementary restrictions to make modifications, it’s recommended you choose “Custom” setting to keep only select people playing with you.
- Inside the “Custom” settings, choose “View details & customize”
- When the next page showing your “online status” and “history” shows up, select the drop-down menu under the option namely “Others can see if you’re online”
- Now, choose as per your preference whether you want to be seen by everyone or only to your friends or no one at all
You’re invisible to someone only till you join their party to play with them. And when you’re done playing, you must manually go offline.
