How to Fix Hard Disk Errors without Losing Data

If you’ve defragmented your hard drive and are still experiencing subpar performance, you need to fix hard disk errors. The errors on a hard drive are generally caused by hardware failures, power outages, poor system maintenance or viruses. Your hard drive may contain your photos, videos, a music collection, important documents, etc. Nowadays, you can safeguard your content by saving it to the cloud or creating an online backup.

However, it’s always a good idea to keep your hard disk in the first-rate condition to avert any possibility of losing your important data before it gets stored in the cloud. The main sign that an HDD has issues is when there’re logical errors on the disk. Once a drive boasts logical errors, it becomes unreadable or can’t be written to. These errors are known as bad sectors. When a drive features a bad sector, it doesn’t mean there’s anything physically wrong with the disk. So, there’s no need to worry as bad sectors can easily be repaired.

The best way to fix hard disk errors without losing data is to use Chkdsk utility. As its name implies, Chkdsk checks your drive and troubleshoot all its problems. What’s more, it scans your drive, corrects logical sector errors, marks bad sectors that can’t be fixed, and transfers data to safe places on HDD. Although the Chkdsk is a handy tool, you need to manually start it as it doesn’t operate automatically.

This how-to article will walk you through the process to fix hard disk errors using Chkdsk. Read on.
