Set a GIF as Lock Screen Wallpaper on Android
In order to set a GIF as the wallpaper on your Android’s Home or Lock Screen, you need to download and install GIF Live Wallpaper on your device. Once done, follow the steps below to get the job done.
Download a GIF
First of all, you need to grab the GIF which you want to set as lock screen wallpaper.
Use GIF Live Wallpaper app
You’ll also have to grant GIF Live Wallpaper access to your media, so tap on the Allow button to continue.
Choose Your GIF
Now, tap on the Picture icon on the top-left side of the screen and choose the GIF you want to set as your home or lock screen wallpaper. In case you want to set the recently downloaded GIF as wallpaper, tap on the hamburger menu in the top-left corner and sort pictures by ‘Downloads’.
Resize Your GIF
Before you set a GIF as lock screen wallpaper on Android, you need to customize it first. Generally, GIFs are really small in size as they don’t mimic your device’s aspect ratio. Fortunately, GIF Live Wallpaper lets you resize your animated picture.
You can even move your GIF around manually by tapping on it and dragging it. To resize it, you can use pinch-to-zoom gesture. Alternatively, you can make use of the four arrows at the top-left side of the screen. Tapping on the Plus sign will center your image.

Change the Background Color of your GIF
In case you don’t resize your GIF, you’ll see borders around it once you set it as your device’s background. In this case, you can change the color of these borders by either tapping on the dropper icon at the top side or by tapping on any spot in the GIF and it’ll match that color perfectly.On the other hand, you can even manually change the background color by tapping on the hamburger menu at the top-right side. There’re three sliders: red, green, and blue. Adjust these sliders yourself and change the color as per your choice. Once done, tap on the dropper icon to confirm the color. Next, return to the edit screen by tapping on the hamburger menu.
Preview Landscape Mode
Before you set a GIF as lock screen wallpaper on Android, you can enable a setting that will let you see how your image will look in the landscape mode. However, if your Android launcher or lock screen doesn’t allow rotation, you won’t need to worry about this step.
In case your lock screen or home screen rotates once you turn your handset, tap on the Landscape Preview. Once done, your animated image will appear in the edit screen in landscape in a preview window at the bottom side. Make changes if you fancy. Otherwise, tap on the hamburger menu at the top-right side to go back to the edit mode.
Change the Speed of Your GIF
Want to slow down or speed up your image? If so, use the tool that looks like a running man in the top-right corner of the screen. Tap on the Plus icon to speed the image up and the Minus sign to slow it down.
Rotate Your GIF
If you want to rotate your moving image, you need to tap on the 90 degrees in the circle on the left side. Doing so will rotate it clockwise by 90 degrees.
Undo Your Changes (Optional)
In case you’ve made some mistakes along the way, undo them by tapping on the clock icon on the bottom-left side. A word of caution – it will undo all the changes you made.
Confirm Your GIF
Once you’re done with the changes, tap on the check mark in the bottom-right corner. A popup will appear asking you where you want to set the GIF. For most phones, you’ll be presented with 3 options namely Set as Lock Screen, Set as Home Screen, and Both. Simply select the one you like. Some Android devices set the GIF as your home screen by default, but also provide an option to set it as lock screen.
