Here’s a Look at All 157 New Emojis Arriving This Year

The final list of Emoji 11.0 has been finalized which features 157 new emojis bringing the total number of the standard emojis to 2,823. According to Emojipedia, the latest emoji set includes hot and cold faces, infinity, redheads, curly hair, a kangaroo, superheroes, partying face, and much more.

The Emoji update 11.0 will likely arrive to smartphones in the second half of 2018. However, Apple usually updates its emoji set in the fall after new iOS releases. Last year, we saw the 157 new emojis arrive in November after the launch of iOS 10.2. So, it’s expected that we can see these emoticons on iPhones and iPads with the introduction of iOS 12. These should also extend to Apple Watch and Mac at the same time. On the other hand, Android release date is a little less predictable, but it’s safe to assume that these emoticons are arriving by the end of the year.

157 New Emojis - Smileys

There are actually 77 unique emojis, having multiple skin-color variations. For smileys, there’s a ‘Smiling Face with 3 hearts’, ‘Woozy Face’, ‘Cold Face’, ‘Hot Face’, ‘Pleading Face’, and ‘Partying Face’. The 157 new emojis also include various hairstyles and color options, such as male and female faces with ‘red hair’, ‘curly hair’, ‘gray hair’, ‘while hair’, and no hair or baldness. This is the first time when Emoji 11.0 incorporates the options for hair color.

Other noteworthy additions are new male and female superhero and supervillain options and emojis for eminent activities like knitting, chess, lacrosse, sewing, skateboarding, and chess.

Animals and insects such as a parrot, peacock, kangaroo, lobster, llama, badger, swan, raccoon, mosquito, and hippopotamus are also included in the 157 new emojis in 2018. On the food front, there’s a mango, bagel, cupcake, and lettuce, among others, while new objects range from a test tube and a fire extinguisher to a sponge and a toilet paper roll. In addition to this, the 157 new emojis also adds an infinity symbol and a pirate flag.

Emoji 11.0 comes with some science-minded strides with a lab coat, DNA strand, glyphs for goggles, as well as a petri dish. There’s also tooth and bone emoji. The new icons are just sample images. Tech vendors may choose to customize these to fit the overall design themes to their emojis. For instance, Google created a rumpus when its cheeseburger emoji included the cheese on the top of the bottom bun.
