WhatsApp has recently rolled out Delete for Everyone feature, letting you revoke sent messages. But do deleted messages actually disappear from your phone? Well, it has been found that the deleted WhatsApp messages still exist on the receiver’s device and can be easily accessed. Here’s how to read deleted messages on WhatsApp.
Read Deleted Messages on WhatsApp
It has been discovered that deleted WhatsApp messages are present in the notification log of recipient’s device. So, it’s just a matter of entering that record to see the messages that have been removed from sender’s end. All you need is to download a third-party app namely Notification History on your device. However, the app is only compatible with Android Nougat or higher. Follow the steps to read deleted WhatsApp messages on Android:
- Download Notification History app from Google Play Store
- Once downloaded, long-press the Home Screen
- Select Widgets at the top of the pop-up window
- Tap on Activities > Settings > Notification Log
- Now, you can easily access the Notification Log to read deleted messages on WhatsApp
- On a stock Android, a Settings widget can provide access to the notification log
However, there’re a handful of drawbacks of this app. You can retrieve only those messages that have been seen or generated a notification on your device. In case the notification of any message is discarded – whether in a notification bar or the floating notification, the app saves that message in the registry.

Also, the app has a restriction that you can see only the first 100 characters of the deleted messages. It is worth notable that it only works for erased text messages; no photos, videos or any other media will be recovered.
The registry only keeps a limited number of notifications simultaneously. Once this limit is reached, the oldest notifications will be removed to free up space for the recent ones. The notification log completely deletes the registry when your phone is restarted.
In case multiple received WhatsApp messages are accumulated after seeing them or discarding the unified notification, only the last message will be registered in the notification log of the app.
