Nokia 8 has been the subject of leaks and rumors for the past few months and it’s already being introduced as the ultimate Android smartphone to hit the market this year. From the design to the specifications and dual cameras, the key features of Nokia 8 are pretty much confirmed. Unlike Samsung Galaxy S8, which has the metal and glass design, Nokia 8 will be carved from a single piece of aluminum. According to reports, the smartphone’s camera will be powered by Carl-Zeiss optics. Let’s dig a little deeper to know more about its features.
Nokia 8 Review – The Checklist
Nokia 8 Review – Design
Nokia is known for its well-designed mobiles and the Nokia 8 seems to follow this suite. The smartphone is made out of CNC 6000 series aluminum with a unibody design and is 7.9mm thick.
Nokia 8 has a slightly curved design, which makes the phone easy to hold and use. There’s also Corning Gorilla Glass 5 at the front and a fingerprint resistant coating at the back. There’s a front fingerprint scanner sitting between the back and recent apps touch controls, which means that the full space of the 16:9 display is available for you to use.
Nokia has also used a liquid cooling system for Nokia 8 with a large copper heat pipe running through the internals. The company also used a graphite heat shield to enable the SD835 to run to the best of its abilities.
Nokia 8 Review – Processor
Like all flagships this year, HMD-Global has also settled for the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC to power its flagship device. The Octa-core chip is used in multiple devices, including HTC U11 and OnePlus 5. However, Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ are the only exceptions to this as both smartphones are powered by Samsung’s own Exynos 8895 SoC, which is equally powerful.
Nokia 8 Review – Display
Nokia 8 comes with a 5.3-inch QHD IPS LCD Multi-touch display with a resolution of 1440×2560 pixels at a pixel density of 554 pixels per inch. The screen is protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass Scratch Resistant display.
Nokia 8 Review – Camera with ZEISS optics
As far as camera quality is concerned, Nokia 8 features a 13MP dual-camera setup. One of the 13MP rear shooters takes photos in RGB while the other captures images in monochrome. The primary RGB sensor is supported by OIS and both cameras use ZEISS optics. The front facing camera uses a 13MP sensor with PDAF (Phase Detection Autofocus).
Moving further, Nokia has also employed its spatial OZO audio technology on the smartphone for a more immersive audio experience. The smartphone also has a splash-proof IP54 rating. One can also see a dual LED flash setup at the back of Nokia 8.
It has been said that one of the device’s big photographic features is the Bothie mode, which will allow Nokia 8 users to record a live video in 1080p with both cameras simultaneously. This can also be done in the video mode.
There’s no hidden fact that HMD Global is bringing back the Carl Zeiss-branding on Nokia-branded mobiles. Well, we can expect a great camera experience on the Nokia 8.
