Apple introduced iOS 11 Beta 3 yesterday and we observed a curious addition that hints at possible livestreaming options. There’s now a ‘Start Broadcast’ option, probably meant for live broadcasting your home screen to other iPhone owners.
Once you go into the redesigned Control Center and long press or 3D Touch on the Screen Recording shortcut button, a menu appears that says ‘Start Broadcast’. If you’ve downloaded the iOS 11 Public Beta, you may have noticed that the menu button said only ‘Start Recording’.
So, what does this mean? Will the Cupertino-based tycoon Apple introduce its own livestreaming service this year alongside iPhone 8? Is this a hint at livestreaming options?
Although some users have suggested that this new button in iOS 11 Beta 3 is intended for AirPlay, it doesn’t make any sense. As the Control Center has already an AirPlay mirroring button, so adding it onto the screen recording function looks like superfluous. In case it was a new AirPlay feature, Apple would have employed the AirPlay logo.
One guess about this one of iOS 11 Beta version features is that the button is aimed at third-party apps, which yearn for influencing the new screen capture functionality.
iOS 11 Beta 3 livestreaming can be a bonus for gamers who regularly live stream to platforms like Twitch and YouTube. It’s quite easy to imagine an Apple TV app that allows viewers to watch other players’ livestream games such as Clash of Clans and Super Mario Run.
With iOS 11 live streaming, the tech major could be seeking to boost its Services business, which embraces Apple Music, iCloud, Apple Pay, iTunes, App Store, and more. As proclaimed during the second quarter earnings of Apple, Services produced $7bn revenue for the company.

It’s in the Cupertino-based giant’s best interest to keep extending its Services trade to stay competitive. It has also been rumored that iOS 11 live streaming could be useful for enterprise users as well. In the interim, public beta testers and developers can try out the latest iOS 11 Beta 3 ahead of its public release this year.
