In an attempt to combat trolls, Twitter rolls out some advanced tools to let its users mute trolls. Dubbed as Twitter notification filters, you can use them to block out tweets from accounts you don’t follow.
This new feature lets you mute Twitter notifications from the accounts that are new, have a default profile pic, as well as the accounts who haven’t verified their phone or email. In this way, these new notification filters offer you more control over the type of notifications you view while using the popular social media platform.
Earlier, users were restricted in the ways they could mute other tweeters. Hot on the heels of its DM filter previous month, Twitter is back with its new notification quality filters, making it easier to ignore hateful trolls.
However, you can use these new Twitter notification filters to mute other accounts on the basis of several criteria. This includes:
- New Accounts that you don’t follow
- Twitter Accounts that don’t follow you
- Accounts you don’t follow
- Accounts who haven’t confirmed their email address
- Accounts who haven’t confirmed their phone number
- Accounts with a default profile photo
Several of these Twitter notification filters were introduced to the Android and web version of the app early in 2017, but now they’re available to everyone along with a few more options.

Now, apart from muting a Twitter conversion, you can also mute any abusing content or trolls. Starting today, you can use these new Twitter notification filters on its official app for Android and iOS or on the website. To get started on your mobile, head over to the Notifications tab, tap on the gear icon, namely Settings button in the upper-right corner, and select the Advanced Filters option. You’ll be presented with the entire list of particular types of accounts together with a toggle control to enable or disable the mute feature.
Alternatively, if you’re using the web version of Twitter, navigate to the Notifications > Settings section. Afterward, click on the preferred Twitter notification filters to turn them on.
