Are you a die-hard fan of Samsung Galaxy Note 7? If so, there’s a good news for you. You probably be pleased to know that 2016’s ill-fated exploding smartphone will soon be making a return. Samsung has declared that it will start selling refurbished units, called Galaxy Note 7 Fan Edition, in its home country South Korea. It is reported that the Fan Edition will launch on July 7 this year.
This comes after last fall’s universal recall that witnessed every Note 7 returned due to battery explosion that caused some phones to burst into flames. Following the Galaxy Note 7 explosion, the company has brought back the device with the widely reported Samsung Note 7 Fan Edition in Korea.
Abbreviated as FE, Galaxy Note 7 Fan Edition offers the same enhanced hardware as the original with its subtly curved display and shiny metal frame, but some minor modifications to the branding. The Samsung logo above the display is ditched, just like on the Galaxy S8. Additionally, the branding on the rear has been altered with the ‘Fan Edition’ branding as well as an altered layout for the overall branding.
Internally, the Galaxy Note 7 FE specifications are mostly the same. It features Snapdragon 821 processor, 64GB of storage, 4GB of RAM, and Android Nougat OS. Software additions are identical, however, Bixby assistant is included as well. It comes with the same iris scanner, 5.7-inch AMOLED display, USB-C, IP68 water resistance, 12MP rear camera, S-Pen, and wireless charging.
The South Korean consumer electronics tycoon announced in March it was considering selling refurbished Galaxy Note 7 in the selected markets. Samsung has stated that the phones would undergo its new 8-point safety test.
The only major alteration on the spec sheet is the battery. Rather than the 3500mAh cell that powered the original, Galaxy Note 7 Fan Edition will feature a 3200mAh battery that is subjected to an accurate 8-point safety test.
Samsung is releasing Galaxy Note 7 Fan Edition on July 7 as a restricted launch in South Korea. Merely 400K units will be available in the country with additional markets being decided at a later date. In conjunction with each sale of the device, the company will toss in a free case and an S Pen Plus.
