The social media tycoon Facebook has hit a new milestone. Mark Zuckerberg announced today in his fb post that Facebook crosses 2bn monthly active users. The milestone means that the company has doubled its user base in just less than five years, after exceeding 1bn monthly active users in October 2012.
For context, the U.S. Census Population Clock says there are approximately 7.4bn people in the world. Ever since the creation of Facebook, the social network has come to acquire Instagram, WhatsApp, and Oculus, as well as designed products such as Facebook Messenger and Facebook Lite, which also attracts over 200mn monthly active users.
The list of platforms across the globe that have crossed 2 billion monthly active users is very short, but the name of Android OS is present in the list. Now, the new name is going to add in the list, i.e. Facebook. The achievement of Facebook monthly active users is announced in an fb post by CEO Zuckerberg to his 92 million followers. The blog post reads,
“As of this morning, the Facebook community is now officially 2 billion people! “We’re making progress connecting the world, and now let’s bring the world closer together. It’s an honor to be on this journey with you.”
In the newest quarter earnings report regarding Facebook user growth 2017, the company shared it had 1.94 billion monthly active users. Of those, 1.28bn were daily active users, or 66% of the monthly count. And now Facebook crosses 2bn monthly active users, statistics show.
Facebook’s growth in the last half decade has been fueled by the rising world. It has persistently optimized its app for low-priced Android smartphones and low-bandwidth connections. The social media platform has been added 746mn users in Asia and the rest of the world region since crossing 1bn users total. In the meantime, it only added 41mn in Canada and the U.S.
Facebook crosses 2bn monthly active users and it wants people to celebrate with a custom-made “Good Adds Up” video. The video includes a special thanks message when you wish a happy birthday, post a Love reaction to something, or create a new group. It also celebrates the contributions and good being done by communities worldwide.
The product manager Guillermo Spiller said in a press release,
“Each day, more than 175 million people share a Love reaction, and on average, over 800 million people like something on Facebook. “More than 1 billion people use Groups every month.”
Facebook’s ongoing accumulation of new users globally is all the more striking given that investors are concerned that rivals like Snapchat and Twitter have seen their rates of growth slow or stall. Its constant momentum has been assisted by the acquisitions of potential competitors such as Instagram and WhatsApp.
