Although there is a full absence of preloaded QR code readers on popular smartphones, it doesn’t stop Google from updating its Chrome browser on iOS with a QR code reader. Now, you can easily scan QR codes in Chrome on your iOS device.
It seems like Chrome is following the suit of Snapchat as it also introduced snapcodes to open any website. Chrome for iOS now makes it super easy to scan QR codes. The new feature also works well with bar codes which you find on a product packaging.
If you happen to have an Apple device with a 3D touch support, you can scan QR codes in Chrome from its quick access menu. On the other hand, if you’re stuck with a legacy hardware, you can use the feature from iOS’s Spotlight search.
You’ll probably be wondering how to scan QR codes in Chrome, right? Well, it’s very easy even you can do it with your eyes shut. Allow us to walk you through the simple process:
Scan QR codes in Chrome for iOS
First of all, make sure that you’re running the latest version of Google Chrome on your iOS device.
1. On 3D touch devices
The QR code for iOS option has been added as a 3D shortcut to Google Chrome. Begin by tapping and holding the Chrome icon. The 3D shortcuts menu will pop up. Tap on the Scan QR Code option to scan QR codes in Chrome. When you use this shortcut for the first time, the browser will ask for an access to your phone’s camera.
Now, position the QR code inside the frame for scanning. Note that the QR code link will not open automatically. It will be entered in the Address bar and you need to tap on the Go button to visit the link.

2. On Non-3D touch devices
If you own a non-3D touch device, you can’t scan QR codes in Chrome for iOS via the app icon. Instead, you have to make use of Spotlight to get the job done.
All you need to do is just type a QR code in Spotlight. Next, tap on the Chrome Scan QR Code result in the search results. It will ask permission to access your camera if you use the QR code scanner for the first time.
Just like on the 3D touch devices, the QR code link will not open automatically. It will be added to the Address bar and you have to tap Go button to open it.
