Enabling Siri

When you first setup Sierra, you are given an option to enable Siri. To enable Siri, you just need to:

  • Check the Enable Siri on this Mac checkbox and click continue

You can leave the checkbox unmarked if you don’t want to configure Siri.

Accessing Siri

Once you’re using your new macOS desktop, you can access Siri using:

  • Option+Space or by clicking the Siri button in the Dock.

Apart from this, the digital virtual assistant can also be accessed from the menu bar. You can safely remove it from your Dock if you don’t want it taking up valuable space.

Once you activate Siri, it’ll patiently wait for your first command. You can ask questions, give instructions and do your daily important tasks. Seriously! Siri is pretty much fun to use.

Configuring Siri

It’s pretty simple to configure Siri. You just need to:

  • open the preference panel from the System Preferences
  • Now, click the Siri icon and jump to Siri preferences

From here you can change the language, change the keyboard shortcut. You can also change Siri’s voice, remove the assistant from menu bar, and much more.

Disabling Siri

Well, if you are not satisfied with your Siri experience and want to disable the virtual assistant you can easily do so. You just need to follow some steps mentioned below:

  • Go to the Apple menu from top right and click on system preferences
  • Just click on the Siri icon present here
  • From right pane uncheck Enable Siri option

When Siri is disabled, it’ll still remain on the dock but disappear from the menu bar. Now, if you try clicking the Siri icon on the Dock, you can enable it once again.

If Siri doesn’t reappear on the menu bar when you re-enable it, just uncheck and recheck the Show Siri in menu bar option in the Siri preference panel.
