Samsung may release its future Galaxy S phones with curved display only. Yes, you heard it right. The company is in plans to dump the flat-screen variant of its flagship S-lineup in the upcoming Galaxy S phones.
Samsung Mobile President, Dongjin Koh indicated the possibility during an interview in New York last week. The statement hinted that the company might expand its curved display tech. Well, for now Samsung offers its Galaxy S7 phone in both – flat-screen and curved-edge variants. But given the hints, upcoming Galaxy S phones might see a change at some point in the future.
Koh said, “Samsung has considered that it would make the edge display as the identity of the Galaxy S smartphone lineup if the company can provide consumers differentiated user experience through software and user-friendly functions (for the curved screen)”.
Samsung seems to fully embrace the idea of curved display screen in order to make it a signature feature on its flagship phones. Of course the Galaxy S7 Edge enjoyed higher demand as compared to its flat-screen counterpart.
Consumers clearly like the feature!
Curved-screen is definitely one of the design cues that set it apart from rest of the pack. Samsung is pretty enamored with curved edges that it launched Note 7 phablet as a curved-screen model, too.
Samsung is quietly trying to gauge the reaction in advance to the new Note model before it finalizes the decision to take the same step with its Galaxy S lineup.
An anonymous watcher told sources, “Samsung will not likely get rid of the flat-screen Galaxy S smartphone model right away, but if the market response is positive with the Note 7, it would surely serve as a cue for Samsung to focus only on the Edge model”.
It’s obvious that given the advantage of larger size, the Note 7 can get in more usable content on its edges than the smaller Galaxy S7 Edge can. And that’s exactly the challenge that Samsung would require to fulfill if upcoming Galaxy S phones come just as curved-display models only.
No comments have been received from Samsung yet, but you can expect the news to become official sometime soon.
