Prisma for Android

Prisma, the notable photo filter for iOS and Android is taking social media platforms with a storm. There is the only name on everyone’s mind, Prisma. The app is quite famous for applying special filters to your images and giving them mesmerizing effect. Last week, we saw the Android version of the app, Prisma for Android, making its debut on Play Store. Within a short span of time, the app is rising to its popularity. Still, there are few things you need to know about it. That’s why we have come up with this complete guide where we’ll discuss everything you need to know about Prisma for Android. Let’s get started:

What you need to know about Prisma for Android

What is Prisma?

Prisma is a notable photo effects app that lets you use special filters to your images. The app’s workflow mimics other photo sharing apps like Instagram and EyeEm.  At the Application’s core, there is a simple viewfinder that takes square images, which you can process and apply 30 filters, many of which are modeled in the style of famous painters like Picasso, Van Gogh and Leonardo da Vinci.

After you’re finished with applying the filters, you can save the images to your phone, share with social media platforms like Facebook or Instagram, or to any other app using Android’s Share button.

What’s so special about Prisma over other similar photo apps?

There are many photo filtering apps available in the market, and then what’s so special in Prisma? This question often arises in everyone’s mind. The speciality lies in Artificial Intelligence (AI) that processes each image differently depending on the filter. Rather than applying the same boring filter every time, the app processes each image from scratch by using special filters. Moreover, the app reportedly learns and adapts the way it implements these filters over time.

Can Prisma see all my photos?

Yes, it can! Prisma uses AI and machine learning to process each photo. This means as per its terms and conditions, the app gets access to use the photos you upload for its own purposes, even if you can continue to own the photos indefinitely. Here’s what Prisma’s terms specify:

“Prisma does not claim ownership of any Content that you post on or through the Service. Instead, you hereby grant to Prisma a non-exclusive, fully paid and royalty-free, transferable, sub-licensable, worldwide license to use the Content that you stylize on or through the Service.”

What about my privacy? How much data does Prisma collect?

Just like many free, ad-based services, Prisma collects a fair amount of data about you, which it may share with third party marketing companies and advertisers to better target you with ads.

Right now, the app is fairly basic and ad-free; but we’re already seeing a business model in the form of sponsored filters. So it’s quite evident that the data the app collects can be used for the purpose of third party advertisers. The company’s privacy policy also clearly specifies the same thing.

“We may share User Content and your information (including but not limited to, information from cookies, log files, device identifiers, location data, and usage data) with businesses that are legally part of the same group of companies that Prisma is part of, or that become part of that group (“Affiliates”).”

At this point, Prisma’s terms and privacy policy appears as a boilerplate text. Still, the app is worth using given its specifications.
