Google is all set to seed its Maps service on mobile devices with ads! Google has announced that it will be adding Promoted Pins to its Maps service for local businesses.
It means advertisers that have been aiming to be at the top in Google Maps will soon have a new tool to get noticed.
Starting soon, the feature will allow local businesses to add their own pins in Google Maps along with their company logo, which will be easy and immediate to locate any local place.
Google says Maps users may find promoted pins for nearby gas stations, coffee shops or lunch spots along with their driving route.
“Local business pages are also getting a brand new look — to encourage consumers to explore your store before they even arrive, we’re adding new features like special offers and the ability to browse product inventory”, added Google.
Promoted Pins will show in the middle of Maps view and permit advertisers to have their logo in order to better indicate a store location. Besides, Google will also show deals and discounts available on the located place along with other details, including store hours and reviews.
Google said that it will not use your device’s location history to target ads. Moreover, it seems that the company will not share users’ location with advertisers.
Google Vice President of Product Management for AdWords, Jerry Dischler said that Google is trying to come up with the most applicable advertising opportunities for its users as well as for advertisers. “Many of our ad formats lead to better user experiences than those pages without ads”, added Jerry.
Google has long been waiting to place ads in its well-liked Maps app. According to the company, they were to come for the right “user and advertiser trade-offs”. With the inclusion of Prompted Pins, the company believes that it’ll not be too interfering and may be quite useful for users as well as advertisers.
The company has yet no plans to allow users for opting to see promoted pins. At present, on mobile devices – Google is using ads under the map in search results. While on desktops, these ads appear on the maps as a business name next to a small purple icon.
Though this is not a new concept for Google, the company is already using almost-similar concept in its Waze – a traffic navigation service.
For the time being, the company will release the feature to a small group of people. So, if you are one of them then you may soon see more advertisements while getting directions from Google Maps.
