Twitter Down: Microblogging Site Not Working for Thousands of Users

Thousands of users across the globe found Twitter down on Thursday evening. About 40% of reported issues center on the Twitter website, while nearly 60% of outages relate to Android and iOS app. The website Down Detector, which tracks worldwide outages for all kinds of services, read there were tons of incidents of users not able to log in or tweet.

In accordance with the complaints logged online, users suffered problems while accessing the social media platform across parts of Western Europe and Russia. Apart from this, European users also found Twitter down on Thursday evening. The crash led to an influx of concerned comments from users who were unable to tweet or log in to the site.

Though most of the issues were reported by desktop users, the microblogging site was also not accessible on Android and iOS app. The highest number of complaints derived from major cities, including Paris, Berlin, London, Moscow, and Istanbul.

Users trying to visit the social media site were met with a black screen and a spinning loading bar. The problems of Twitter down started at nearly 8 PM (GMT) and the site functioned normally again for many users around 20 minutes later. However, it’s yet unclear what caused the outage.

Twitter is generally the first port of call for social media users when other platforms such as Facebook, WhatsApp, and YouTube experience technical difficulties. However, during the Twitter down condition, users turned to Facebook to vent their frustration. Once the service resumed, Twitter was flooded people sharing memes expressing how they managed without the Twitter fix.

The issues with Twitter arise after the Facebook-owned WhatsApp service went down on New Year’s Eve. According to Down Detector, numerous WhatsApp users faced connection problems on NYE 2017.

Down Detector registered a peak of more than 6K users reporting problems with the social media site. However, that figure has just dropped to a few dozen after around a few hours. As soon as the service was back and running as per usual, users took the site to tweet about the outage and made Twitter down a top trend worldwide.
